The Hub Clean Energy Partners program seeks to leverage existing Paso del Norte regional opportunities, competencies, capabilities and interest in the development and commercialization of clean technologies. This program connects the various parts of the clean tech infrastructure which might not otherwise connect. Linking of these parts can lead to opportunities for accelerated growth of clean technology in our region. These parts include inventors, researchers, academia, public institutions, private companies, and any other interested stakeholders.
The specific objectives are to identify existing businesses and institutions willing and able to:
- Test, evaluate, endorse and demonstrate clean technologies from HUB clients.
- Be early adopters of clean technology associated with HUB clients.
- License clean technologies from HUB clients and / or partner with HUB clients to commercialize clean tech.
- Participate in collaborative research and development for HUB clients with clean technology.
- Participate in joint marketing and promotion of clean technology products and services.
Definition: Clean technology has a very broad definition. It involves products and services that reduce negative environmental effects such as greenhouse gas emissions. Clean energy products also promote, enhance or advance the diversity of renewable sources and transmission of energy such as solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, tidal, bio-fuels and hydro-technologies. Products also fall into this category if they promote energy efficiency or conservation, or if they provide an improved demand response. This category includes technology using smart grids, power electronics, waste-to-energy systems, solid-state lighting, and advanced materials. It also includes green retail and green buildings that incorporate environmental controls or integrated system technologies that incorporate cleaner uses of coal, more environmentally friendly recovery of oil, or processes incorporating carbon dioxide removal, wastewater reduction or recycling, remediation of environmental hazards or nuclear energy. The definition of clean energy also takes into account diverse energy storage methods such as battery storage and compressed air energy storage. And of course it includes plug-in or non-plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and their associated infrastructure.
The Clean Energy Partners program integrates with and is leveraged by the Hub’s Manufacturing Partners program. This program connects HUB clients with contract manufacturing and or joint venture manufacturing for clean technology products.
